Three principles guide conservation biology: “(i) evolution is the basic axiom that unites all biology; (ii) the ecological world is dynamic and largely nonequilibrial; and (iii) the human presence must be included in conservation planning”. Thus, conservation and management efforts seek to allow species enough area and conditions for evolution, to strengthen their ability to interact with other species and with the environment and to monitor and regulate human activities, to minimize direct and indirect negative impacts, particularly on cryptogam’s microhabitats and/or threatened species. This session welcomes communications on the management and conservation of cryptogams. These can focus on red lists assessment, conservation interventions (either in situ or ex situ), connectivity studies, the role of cryptogams within biodiversity management plans, and people’s perception of cryptogams and their role in the ecosystems.
